Time for wonderful dreaming! Where would I want to be in the world coming fortnight?
I have started a biweekly Wednesday series of places, festivals, destinations, hikes, etc etc where I would like to be in the world the coming 14 days, if no restrictions would apply. First on Facebook and now on my blog. This was one of the first posts on FB.
Alternative Inca Trails
May and June are good months to hike up to Peru’s Machu Picchu. Vegetation should be green after the rainy season and crowds have yet to come. Millions have by now followed the Inca Trail, but fortunately, the Inca were master road builders who blazed trails all throughout the Andes, and many of these are alternate routes to Machu Picchu.
One of the best alternative route is the Camino Salkantay. The five-day hike takes the literal high road to the ruins. Accordingly, you’ll find yourself up close and personal with some of the area’s most famous peaks—not least, the trail’s namesake, Salkantay.
